Johnny's Gorge

Improve

Johnny's Gorge is one of the most popular dive sites around Havelock in the Andaman Islands. The reason for this is the abundance of whitetip reef sharks and a variety of rays found in this area.

Schooling tunas, silver jacks, and barracudas also circle this area. Other notable species include angelfish, clown triggerfish, Andaman sweetlips, striped sweetlips, and longfin batfish.

The two areas of reef, filled with colorful soft corals and gorgonians, are separated by a shallow gorge. The barrel sponges grow very big here. Some of the sponges are estimated to be over 1,200 years old.

Johnny's Gorge is suitable for advanced divers and has a maximum depth of 34 meters/110 feet. Visibility is good - about 20 meters/66 feet and more. Mild current.
