The surgeonfish is a species of thin, deep-bodied, marine fishes that can be found in all the tropical seas of the World, except the Mediterranean Sea.
The name "surgeonfish" was given because of the razor sharp spines that are located on either side of the tail base and can produce deep cuts.
There are many species of surgeonfish including the yellow surgeon or yellow tang (Indo-Pacific), the blue tang (Atlantic and Caribbean) and the manini (common in Hawaii).
