Sharks are some of the oldest lifeforms out there. They have been around long before the dinosaurs.

These elasmobranch fish are characterized by a cartilaginous skeleton, five to seven gill slits on each side of the head, and pectoral fins that are not fused to the head.

Sharks are found in deep and shallow waters throughout the world’s oceans. Some are solitary while some species are seen in groups.

While they do get a bad rap and are often perceived as blood-seeking villains, sharks are not fans of human meat. However, attacks have indeed increased in the last century. Most often, sharks confuse humans for prey. Nonetheless, the chances of being attacked by a shark remain slim.
