plumose anemone

Alternative names: Metridium spp

Plumose anemones are anemones of the family Metridiidae. They are recognizable by their abundant, multi-branched tentacles that create a feathery effect.

They have to types of tentacles - the ones used for feeding and the ones used for defense.

Plumose anemones consume just about anything that floats, including small fish, but most of their food is almost microscopic.
