Marbled rays have a circular-shaped disc (body) and a mottled black and white pattern on their upper surface. Their tail is longer than the disc.

They are bottom feeders; they settle themselves down over their prey and maneuver them into their mouths.

Typically not aggressive, this species is nonetheless responsible for the fatality of the famous Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin.
