Grey nurse shark

Alternative names: sand tiger shark, Carcharias taurus, spotted ragged-tooth shark, blue-nurse sand tiger

This shark inhabits the continental shelf of subtropical and temperate waters, reaching a depth of maximum 191 meters. Its bulky grey body, with reddish-brown spots on the back, can reach a length of 3.2 meters and a weight of 159 kilograms. It can be easily distinguished by its sharp and pointy head.
Unlike most other sharks, the grey nurse shark is capable of gulping air from the surface.
Its mouth shelters three rows of protruding, smooth-edged, sharp-pointed teeth.
