Coral Shrimp

Alternative names: Stenopus hispidus, Coral Banded Shrimp

The coral shrimp is a decapod crustacean found in the western Atlantic Ocean, including the Gulf of Mexico. It is usually found in small crevices, as they spend most of their time in hiding.

The body of the shrimp is semitransparent but the carapace, abdomen and the third pereiopod are all banded red and white. Their average size is 4 to 8 cm; larger individuals are called prawns.
