The black triggerfish is a species of triggerfish that lives off the shores of Hawaii and Polynesia, in the East Indies, in the Indian Ocean, and the Red Sea. It is found in open waters, among coral and rock formations at 5 to 35 meters deep.

This species has a mottled dark-blue/green coloration often with orange towards the head. Because of its appearance, it is often confused with the Indian triggerfish or black-finned triggerfish (Melichthys indicus).

Often seen in Ambergris Caye
