Black coral (Antipatharians) are an order of soft corals that are recognized by their black or dark brown chitin skeletons. Despite their names, they are rarely totally black, and can be white, yellow, green, red, or brown. They inhabit deep-water habitats and are found in all oceans, but are most prevalent in tropical and subtropical climates.
