The bat star is a species of sea star typically with five arms and a center disk wider than its arms. Some species can grow up to nine arms. The name "bat star" comes from the bat wing-like webbing between its arms.

These stars come in different colors: green, yellow, orange, brown, red, either mottled or solid.

Most commonly found along the coast of Central California and Monterey Bay. It lives in the intertidal zone to depths of 300 meters.
