Watamula, which derives its name from the Dutch word “watermolen” (watermill), is a superb dive site that starts with a filed of hard coral, then a patch of soft coral, and ends with another field of hard coral. As you can imagine, this is quite a spectacular sight.
The dive is most interesting between 9 and 18 meters/30-60 feet, where most creatures can be seen. Some of the marine animals you can spot here include groupers, parrotfish, triggerfish, chubs, lobsters, seahorses, rays, and sea turtles.
Beware of the changing currents. The direction of the currents varies, and sometimes, the currents even flow in a circle.
Watamula is often done as a drift dive and is recommended for experienced divers. The reef extends to more than 30 meters/100 feet, but most divers don’t go past 20 meters/66 feet. Diving is possible all year round.
