Umm Dom/stoney Beach

Improve

Stoney Beach, or Umm Dom, is one of the most famous dive sites around Hurghada. It is located off Giftun Kebir and features a white-sand beach with spectacular cliffs. Equally as fascinating is the underwater world, with a plateau found at a depth of about 15 meters (49 feet) from where a steep wall drops to a depth of about 70 meters (230 feet).

Marine life is abundant. Morays, stonefish, octopus, and various species of reef fish are commonly spotted here. Deeper, reef sharks, jacks, barracudas, tuna, and sea turtles can be seen. If you’re lucky enough, you can even spot whale sharks in season. The primary whale shark season in Hurghada is said to be May through July.

This deep dive exceeds 70 meters (230 feet) and the visibility is about 20-30 meters (66-100 feet). Scuba diving at Umm Dom/Stoney Beach is possible year-round, with water temperature ranging from 22 to 27° C (71-80° F). The hottest season goes from July to September.
