The Japanese Gardens dive site in Eilat, Israel is one of the best-protected spots in the region; the site is restricted to a set number of divers per day to preserve the reefs. Located on the southern side of the Almog Coral Reef, the site stretches for 500 meters/1,640 feet and is considered one of the largest areas for scuba diving, with both shallow and deeper parts.

Open Water divers can enjoy the shallow part of the Japanese Gardens, which has a maximum depth of 16 meters/20 feet, while advanced and technical divers can reach depths of up to 60 meters/197 feet. The shallow part is separated by the deep part with a stripe of sandy bottom where corals foregather to make a wall that descends to great depths.

Scuba diving in Eilat means you will see all kinds of underwater creatures. Marine life at Japanese Gardens is spectacular: healthy corals, including many beautiful table corals provide numerous photo opportunities. Schools of jacks, barracudas, needlefish, moray eels, unicornfish, and white-tip reef sharks can also be encountered here.

Japanese Gardens can be dived year-round. High season runs from July through the end of August when water temperatures reach up to 29° C/84° F. To avoid the summer crowds, consider visiting Eilat in September or October when water temperatures are still warm.
