The Stingray City dive site in the Cayman Islands is one of the best very shallow spots in the world. This spot allows divers to come close to the friendly local stingrays in a wild but controlled environment. The backdrop is a beautiful white sandbar with crystal-clear water that ensures some amazing pictures.
Divers are given the chance to feed the stingrays with bits of squid. Your dive operator will give a full briefing on how to interact with the Southern stingrays prior to the dive. Once in the water, divers usually sit on the bottom of the sea in a semi-circle while the rays swim around them, looking for food.
Stingray City is also visited by a few species of tropical fish, snappers, sergeant majors, and jacks that come here for the free food as well. Some coral heads are present too. And at only 4 meters/12 feet deep, the site is suitable for both divers and snorkelers.
The only disadvantage is the sometimes high number of tourists that visit Stingray City, with numerous boats and sometimes loud visitors that may prevent one from enjoying the experience to its fullness.
