San Jose is one of the 1733 Spanish Galleon Fleet that sank off the Florida coast, more precisely off Tavernier Key. The 36-gun ship was carrying 7 million pesos in gold when it sank due to a hurricane.

The San Jose wreck is protected and is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. There’s not much of the ship to see, but it has rich marine life, including a variety of coral species and sponges. You’ll always find colorful schooling fish here and, if you’re likely, even some sea turtles.
