Red Slave (Peleke)

Dive site in
Improve

Red Slave is a dive site only suitable for experienced divers due to the strong and treacherous currents. The shallow plateau has a sandy bottom where you can always find large stingrays in the morning. At about 6 meters/20 feet, you can see a beautiful coral garden to the left of the buoy.

Other marine animals you can spot here include groupers, barracudas, and eagle rays. From 20 meters/66 feet down you will find a lot of branched black coral, purple row pore rope sponge, and branched vase sponge.

The drop off starts at 10 meters/33 feet with a ledge and canal system. The reef drops to 35 meters/115 feet, and between 35 and 40 meters, you can find some old anchors. The HMS Barham sank here in 1829, but there’s not much left of it; only the ballast rocks of the wooden ship.

At 50 meters/167 feet, there’s another drop-off, but this one is only accessible to technical divers. Even so, it is hardly ever visited due to the very strong currents.
