Princess Alice Bank, or Princesa Alice, is one of the most rewarding dive sites in the Azores. The submerged seamount rises from a depth of 2,500 meters, but the average diving depth is 35 meters/115 feet.
The area is prone to strong currents and diving here requires experience and a minimum certification of Advanced Open Water.
Those that venture to Princess Alice will be rewarded with sights of up to 50 mobula rays. The mobulas are the stars of the show, but the site is also home to many pelagic fish such as barracudas, triggerfish, swordfish, bonitos, monkfish, as well as stingrays. Lucky divers may even get to see some whale sharks and manta rays.
Getting to Princess Alice typically takes three hours. Divers will depart from Horta Harbour, Faial island, or from Madalena, Pico Island.
