Orange Canyon is a beautiful dive site located west of Grand Cayman. This popular spot got its name because of the big orange elephant ear sponges that cover this area. The dive starts on the mooring ball and after you descend through a canyon, you emerge on the wall at about 30 meters, or 100 feet. You are then taken along the wall where you can spot large pelagics such as sharks and spotted eagle rays. On top of the wall is where you can admire various species of coral, sponges, and smaller marine animals like sea turtles, eels, and tropical fish.
Scuba diving at Orange Canyon is possible year-round, with an average water temperature of about 26° C/78° F. However, June through October is the hurricane season in the Cayman Islands, so be sure to check the weather forecast before visiting. Visibility is outstanding and exceeds 30 meters/100 feet.
To enjoy it to its fullest, Orange Canyon is best suited for Advanced Open Water divers or above.
