Merkanti Reef is one of Malta's best dive sites for beginner divers. With a maximum depth of 18 meters, a great underwater visibility with an average of 25 meters, as well as easy access by boat (the dive spot can be accessed from the shore as well, but it requires a rather long swim).
There are two parts of Merkanti Reef, parallel to the shore and to each other.
The reef offers some great opportunities for underwater photography, as the marine life here is abundant. The species of flora and fauna include Neptune's Grass, anemones, groupers, moray eels, rockfish, damselfish, octopus, blennies and breams.
