Marmoler, also known as Avvenire, is a wreck dive site located off the coast of Montgri. The Italian cargo ship was built in 1930 and sank in 1971 during a strong storm. The ship carried blocks of marble (“mármol” in Spanish), hence the name of Marmoler. The 50-meter (164-foot) long ship now lies in 32 to 44 meters (105-145 feet) of water.
The Avvenire sits upright on a sandy plain with its hull intact and covered with algae. There are also quite a few species of marine creatures that have made the ship their home, including lobsters, sunfish, crayfish, and other species of fish.
The maximum visibility is only 10 meters (33 feet) and the currents can get strong. Due to the diving conditions and depth of the wreck, this dive site is recommended for advanced/technical divers. Marmoler can be dived year-long, with water temperatures ranging from 13 to 25° C (55-77° F) depending on the season.
