Lion’s Head is a dive site located south of Thilafushi Reef. The spot got its name because of an overhang shaped like a lion’s head. It’s one of the oldest shark points in the Maldives and offers attractive coral gardens and interesting sea creatures. The reef starts at 3 meters (10 feet) and drops to about 45 meters (148 feet).
Marine life and abundant and diverse, and includes both big and small oceanic species like sharks, tunas, sea turtles, Napoleon wrasses, eagle rays, rainbow fusiliers, lionfish, leaf fish, red tooth triggers, and many others. From 5 to 10 meters (16-33 feet) there are some cavities where octopus, lobsters, and sea urchins can be found. It’s a great spot for underwater photography.
Visibility typically falls between 10 to 20 meters (33-66 feet). Currents are known to be strong here. Regardless of this, Lion’s Head is considered suitable for all divers.
