Kata Reef North is one of the best macro dive sites in Thailand. This easy shore dive features some of the weirdest creatures in the Andaman Sea, so if you’re into underwater photography, this is the place to be.

Ghost pipefish, cuttlefish, nudibranchs, whip coral shrimps, emperor shrimps, lionfish, flatworms, frogfish, seahorses, snake eel, snake blenny, reef octopus, mimic octopus, and starry night octopus are some of the interesting marine animals found here. Harlequin shrimps have also been spotted at Kata Reef.

The best time to dive at Kata Reef is October through May when the sea is calm and visibility is at its best. The site is suitable for all experience levels. Navigation on the reef is easy and it is surrounded by a buoy line to keep the boats out.

Kata Reef is also done as a night dive. There is a lot of life to be seen here even after dark. Flatworms, lionfish, decorator crabs, shrimps, cuttlefish, and the Spanish Dancers can be seen here during nighttime.
