Jim Atria is the wreck of a former Dutch freighter built in 1961 that capsized in 1982. Because of the damage, the ship was never used as a cargo ship again and in 1987, the vessel was purchased by a local land developer with the goal of turning it into an artificial reef. She was taken underwater in the same year and is now resting East of the Vista Park kayak launch point.
The wreck can be found at a depth of about 40 meters/135 feet. It sits upright with its two masts intact. Penetration diving is possible through its several openings.
Jim Atria is covered with corals, sea fans, and oysters, and is home to many species of fish, including barracudas and Goliath groupers. If you’re lucky, you may even spot whale sharks, dolphins, and sea turtles.
