Cueva De Las Gambas is a popular dive site in Playa del Carmen, especially among technical divers. it features a cave located within the reef wall at a depth of about 40 meters/131 feet, but the cave extends down to over 100 meters.

Also known as Shrimp Cave, Cueva De Las Gambas is teeming with shrimp that hide here from the groupers. Marine life also includes colorful sea slugs, fairy basslets, and Atlantic damselfish.

Because of its depth, you won’t find that many divers here. This area experiences low current and visibility is quite good – about 15 meters/50 feet.

The best time to dive in the area is June to October. The water temperature is about 18° C/64° F in the winter and around 26° C/79° F in the summer.
