The Clan MacWilliam is a 140 meter long steam powered cargo ship that was built in 1918 and sunk in the Port of Refuge Harbour on the 25th of December 1927 following a fire in its cargo hold.

The wreck sits upright at a depth of 20-40 meters in the sheltered waters at the top of the harbour.

A shot line takes you down onto the back deck at 22 meters. As the wreck is sitting upright it is easy to orientate yourself to the ship. For those who want to check out the propeller its an easy drop over the stern and down to the sand at 40 meters.

The upper deck, hand rails and superstructure are covered in a wide variety of hard and soft corals with larger schooling fish buzzing past. There is tons of macro life on the wreck, its worth bringing a torch to see into some of the larger compartments. The wreck makes for a fantastic night dive and is an excellent training ground for those wanting to advance their skills.

The mid section of the wreck and its superstructure has now collapsed inwards. As the ship is becoming unstable we do not do penetration diving. If you want to see the whole wreck several dives will be needed.

As the wreck starts at 22 meters it is easy to go into deco time so it is important to monitor your air and bottom time.
