Chitales is a shallow reef in Cancun only 10 meters/35 feet deep, perfect for divers of all levels. It’s a great spot for drift diving due to the south-east current that runs constantly almost all year round.
The reef is composed of large staghorn corals and is inhabited by a variety of marine life such as amberjacks, barracudas, moray eels, triggerfish, groupers, parrotfish, frogfish, jellyfish, nudibranchs, and many others. Near the reef, there’s also a sea-grassland area where you can sometimes see green turtles feeding.
Diving is possible all year round in Cancun. The water temperatures vary by just a few degrees from winter to summer, and it doesn’t fall below 27° C/80° F.
