Calavera Cenote / Temple Of Doom

Calavera Cenote, or Temple of Doom, is one of the best dive sites to see the halocline, the place where seawater meets freshwater. It remains, however, somewhat of a hidden gem.

The cenote consists of a large cenote and two smaller ones that look like hollow eyes. “Calavera” means skulls in Spanish, and the cenote got this name because of its skull shape which can be observed from above.

The greenish water, great visibility, and the thin halocline layer that appears like an icy floor make it an excellent dive you shouldn’t miss.

Calavera Cenote has a depth of 15 meters/50 feet and there is a permanent guideline that you must follow. The dive usually lasts for about 40 minutes.
