Berlengas is an archipelago located west off the coast of Peniche, Portugal. The underwater topography is defined by a volcanic seabed, caves, and grottos. There’s also multiples wrecks here, with the area commonly being referred to as a “shipwreck cemetery.”
Marine life is abundant. Some of the animals you can see here include groupers, prawns, crayfish, crabs, octopuses, starfish, lobsters, and even sharks. The walls are covered with anemones and hydrarians.
Dive depth, currents, and visibility vary from dive site to dive site, but there’s something for everyone. The best time to dive in the Berlengas is June through October when the average water temperature is 19° C/66° F.
