Barn Ledge is a dive site situated east of James Bay. The seamount rises from a depth of about 55 meters (180 feet) to 12 meters (39 feet) below the surface. Large numbers of both male and female whale sharks come here each year. The abundant marine life also includes species such as bottlenose dolphins, devil rays, black jacks, almaco jacks, yellowfin tuna, and rainbow runners.

St. Helena Island offers pristine visibility that can exceed 40 meters (120 feet) and water temperatures of 19-25° C/66-76° F. Barn Ledge is accessible to divers of all levels of experience, but accessing the dive site is not always possible due to it being located on the windward side of the island.
