The B17 is a former American bomber plane that served the US Army during WWII. It was one of the most famous models of the time and was called a “flying fortress” because of its 13 machine guns. The well-preserved wreck is a must for divers visiting Corsica.
You’ll find the wreck in front of the port of Calvi, close to the citadel, where it sank on February 14, 1944. It measures 23 meters/75 feet in length with a wingspan of 32 meters/105 feet.
This is a deep dive. The plane lies in 37-40 meters/121-130 feet of water with its four engines still intact. Conger eels and moray eels have taken residence on the wreck.
