Alligator Reef

Alligator Reef is one of the best snorkeling and diving spot of Florida Keys. This healthy coral reef boasts a variety of game fish and tropical fish and is home to several unidentified wrecks.

In fact, the reef was named after the USS Alligator, which was thought to have sunk here. However, experts determined that the remains found underwater at Alligator Reef are not in fact of the USS Alligator but of a yet-to-be-determined ship.

Damselfish, angelfish, parrotfish, snappers, blue tangs, surgeonfish, and spiny lobsters are just some of the marine animals you can expect to see here. The numerous stony and gorgonian corals make the perfect colorful backdrop for underwater photography.

With a depth of only 15 meters/50 feet, this site is suitable for all divers, including beginners.
