Abu Kafan

Improve

Abu Kafan (“Father of the Deep”) is a long and narrow reef running north to south in Safaga. It features a wall that rises from over 100 meters deep and is filled with black corals and large gorgonians.

In the deep, you’ll regularly spot the big stuff – barracudas, tuna, trevallies, blue-spotted rays, hammerheads, whitetip reef sharks, and grey reef sharks. in the reef, you’ll find lots of moray eels and groupers hiding in the holes.

Abu Kafan is typically recommended for experienced divers as the currents can get strong, especially on the north and northeast sides. You’ll need at least two dives to explore it all.
