Abu Hashish South Ergs

Improve

Abu Hashish South Ergs is a dive site located on the south side of the island of Abu Hashish, in Makadi Bay. It is easily reachable from Hurghada, which is about 90 minutes north. The reef is about 1 km long and features elongated shallow erg (dune) fields. The plateau is between 15 and 22 meters (50-72 feet) deep.

There’s also a steep wall where the current is stronger and offers opportunities for drift diving. Other parts of the reef have little to no current.

Marine life includes barracudas, mackerels, white-tip reef sharks, sea turtles, eagle rays, Spanish dancers, blue-spotted stingrays, groupers, and pufferfish. Hammerhead sharks and brown stingrays can sometimes be spotted here as well.

Abu Hashish South Ergs is suitable for experienced divers.
