Description

Began dive with Elena and Ufuk from the large circular "crater" in the submerged rock surface (5m). It can be seen using Google Earth as it has a 20m diameter. Location: 38.475223,20.562060. A very wide entrance to the cave appears below the overhang to the N. We opted to disregard the opening on the right and followed the sloping cavern descending to the sand bottom (about 26m). Halfway along the descent the light of the second access to the cavern becomes visible as it shines on the white sand below. It is worth progressing very slowly as the walls are really quite interesting to explore. Also worth moving with care to avoid touching the rock at all costs in order to preserve the beauty of the dive for others. Swimming past the deepest point of the cavern you ascend by about 6m to exit between a few larger rocks. We swam through a passage to the right and explored the surrounding area up to a depth of 30m. We then decided to return back through the cavern as it was definitely worth a second visit. Focussing on the narrow ceiling of the lower part of the cavern was very interesting. Plenty of entertaining shrimp sharing the space with small fish made this part fascinating. Once we arrived at the wide entrance at about 12-14 m we opted to turn left to explore the other cave we had given a pass at the beginning of the dive. It opened up into a wide bell shaped space with a large fallen rock on the right. Turning around the rock you move out of the light zone and after a brief peak along a line that had been set it's surface we decided to not explore further as we had had plenty of fun at this stage already. We exited back out of the main circular crater (felt like a mini cenote). A dive to remember!
