Lekuan is the signature dive of Bunaken Marine Park, Indonesia. It features a beautiful wall broken down into several dive spots: Leukan 1, Leukan 2, and Leukan 3. Leukan 1 is arguably the most popular dive site of them all. The top of the reef has a beautiful coral garden that can be admired by snorkelers while divers can explore its depths.
The dive starts on a sandy slope and then goes along the wall. The wall is filled with crevices where a multitude of sea creatures like to hide. Damselfish, pyramid butterflyfish, bannerfish, batfish, nudibranchs, jacks, trevallies, sea turtles, Napoleon wrasses, giant groupers, blacktip reef sharks, and whitetip reef sharks are just some of the species you can encounter here. The wall is also encrusted in sea sponges, sea fans, sea squirts, giant barrel sponges, and black corals.
Lekuan 1 has a maximum depth of 20 meters/66 feet and is accessible to divers of all levels. However, the currents can get very strong here. Look for the sheltered areas. Visibility is excellent.
