The porkfish is a species of grunt. It has a silver to light yellow body with yellow stripes along entire length, yellow fins and forhead, and two black vertical stripes running along the head. Like all grunts, the porkfish produces a grunting sound that comes from fish's habit of grunting by grinding its pharyngeal teeth, sound which is amplified by its swim bladder.
Native to the western Atlantic Ocean, it is often consumed as food, altough it sometimes contains the ciguatera toxin.
Their bright color make them a popular fish in public aquariums.
