This fish has an orange to red body or silver, and some individuals are silver with wide red lines. Its fins are red to light pink and its pelvic fins ar every large. It can be easily recognised by its large eyes.
It commonly has approximately fifteen small dark spots along its lateral line.
The goggle eye can reach a maximum length of 45 centimeters.
