Fire coral are a genus of marine animals that exhibit physical characteristics to that of a coral. They are not true corals; Instead, they are more related to Hydra and other hydrozoans. These hydrocorals are widely distributed in tropical and subtropical waters. Their coloring is bright yellow-green and brown and appear in small brush-like growths. It can be easy to mistake the fire corals for seaweed and touch it. Upon contact, you may be left with a pain that can last for up to two weeks.
