The California moray eel is the only species of eel found off California. It is commonly found on rocky reefs at depths of up to 40 meters/130 feet. Juveniles live in tide pools while adults can be found in deeper waters.
This species can reach a size of up to 1.52 meters/5 feet and an age of up to 26 years.
