Overheat Reef is one of the most highly appreciated dive sites in Roatan. The spot got its name years ago because of the older, unreliable diving boat engines that used to overheat frequently on their way back to the dock. As a result, the boats were forced to make a new stop along their way, and divers got to perform a second dive.
The abundance of hard and soft coral and the spectacular amount of schooling fish are a huge draw for any diver. Sea turtles, seahorses, trumpetfish, and drumfish are just some of the many species of marine animals you can spot here.
The topography of Overheat Reef includes caverns, swim-throughs, and a series of channels and ridges that run perpendicularly along a wall. The top of the wall, at 10 meters/30 feet, is covered with corals and teeming with fish. Divers will also come across a little grotto which is home to lots of lobsters and crabs.
Overheat Reef is perfect for snorkelers and divers of all levels.
