Irako Maru is one of the best wreck dive sites in Coron Bay, Palawan. The 147-meter/480-foot long Japanese Refrigeration Ship sunk in 1944 during WWII after an airstrike. The wreck now lies in 40 meters/130 feet of water in good condition.
As one of the deepest wrecks in the area, Irako Maru is suitable for advanced divers only. Penetration is possible. Inside, you can see fridges, rice boilers, food mixers, and other kitchen appliances. It is not possible to go inside without a guide.
Marine life: scorpionfish, tuna, groupers, trevallies, lionfish, jacks, fusiliers, batfish, triggerfish, snappers, nudibranchs, and more. You may also see some sea turtles and blue-spotted rays.
Diving in Coron is a year-round activity, but you may experience bad weather from June to September. The best conditions can be found from December to March.
