Hms Perseus Submarine

Место погружения в
Improve

HMS Perseus was a Parthian-class submarine built in 1929 that served the British army. The submarine sank during WWII while sailing from Malta to Alexandria after striking an Italian mine.

Dozens of sailors lost their lives. The only man known to have survived was John Capes, a 31-year-old Navy stoker, who had to swim five miles to Kefalonia Island. The islanders hid him for a year and a half after which Capes was smuggled out to Turkey.

The wreck is located just off Kefalonia Island at a depth of 52 meters/170 feet and is accessible to technical divers. Good visibility.

Some of the marine life in the area includes groupers, wrasses, barracuda, bream, amberjack, parrotfish, and various species of crustaceans and invertebrates. Monk seals, dolphins, and loggerhead sea turtles may also be seen here.
