Boreas Wreck

Место погружения в
Improve

El Boreas, or Pellworm, was a 30-meter long sea tugboat that served during WWII under the German Navy. After the war, it was used for drug smuggling and taken out of service once this was discovered. The tugboat was sunk as an artificial reef in 1989 and is now a popular scuba diving attraction in the region of Costa Brava.

With an average depth of 25 meters/82 feet and a maximum depth of 32 meters/105 feet, this site is suitable for advanced divers. Wreck divers can penetrate the wreck and explore its engine room, the captain’s cabin, the bridge, and the kitchen. The wreck is safe, as all hazardous items were removed from the ship before it was scuttled.

A multitude of fish pass by the El Boreas wreck: goatfish, bream, groupers, barracudas, mullets, lobsters, starfish, and sea urchins. If you’re lucky enough, you may even spot the Mola mola, or oceanic sunfish.

Diving the Boreas dive site is possible year-round, but for the best conditions, it’s best to visit during the summer when water temperatures reach up to 26° C/79° F. During the winter, expect water temperature of as low as 13° C/55° F.
