Aktun Ha, better known as Car Wash, is located just 8km from Tulum on the road to Coba. The cenote got its name because people actually washed their cars (taxis) here in the past.
Thankfully, now it is at the divers’ disposal. During the hot season, it offers a wonderful effect created by the blooming of algae that grow at the surface. It looks like an orange-green layer on the water.
Aktun Ha can be dived all year round. The water temperature averages 26° C / 79° F throughout the year and the maximum depth is 16 meters/53 feet.
The cenote is usually open from 8 AM and 5 PM, but your dive center can confirm the opening hours.
