The striped Raphael catfish is a catfish native to the Amazon, Paraguay–Paraná and lower Orinoco basins. It is a nocturnal species that burrows in the soft river bottoms and can be frequently seen on sandy bottoms. The catfish feeds on mollusks, crustaceans and organic debris. It has a standard length of 20-24 cm (7.9-9.4 in), but can grow up to 43 cm (17 in) long.
