The horse-eye jack is a large fish that can grow to a length of 101 cm and weigh up to 13 kg. The name comes from its eyes, which are large in proportion to the rest of the head.

It can be found on reefs and offshore oil rigs; the juveniles are seen closer to shore along sandy and muddy bottoms.
