The brown bullhead is a species of catfish widespread in the Atlantic and Gulf Slope drainages, but stocked for sport and food in many other regions, such as Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho or Kansas.
It grows to be around 21 inches in length and its weight varies between 500 grams and 3,6 kilograms. It is darker brown green dorsally growing lighter green and yellow towards the ventral surface. The belly is off white or cream and the fish has no scales.
