The blue lined grouper is an Indo-West Pacific fish species whose distribution range spreads from western India to the Philippines, north to soutern Japan, as well as north to southern Australia.
The fish can reach a maximum length of 30 centimeters and prefers depths ranging from 10 to 30 meters, in dead or silty reefs. Its body is brownish and has a series of bright blue bands horizontally across its body, while its fins are a darker shade of blue.
