The MV Superior Producer is a wreck dive site not far from the island of Curacao. The ship was built in 1957 and was originally named Andromeda. It sank in September 1977 just outside the Otrobanda harbor on its way to Venezuela. The Superior Producer was most likely loaded beyond its capacity, as it began to shift soon as it left the harbor. After having sunk with a cargo of whiskey, perfume, clothing, and other items, scuba divers, freedivers, and others arrived from the shores to scavenge the wreck.
Today, the 50-meter (164-foot) long ship is one of the most popular dive sites in the world. The Superior Producer sits upright on its keel, with its bow in about 30 meters (100 feet) of water. The open cargo allows for easy penetration and trained wreck divers can explore the engine room and crew cabins. The small wheelhouse can be explored by everyone.
The Superior Producer is covered in corals and sea sponges and marine life is abundant. Barracudas, lionfish, moray eels, nudibranchs, frogfish, octopus, spider crabs, banded coral shrimps, spiny lobsters, angelfish, sea turtles, scorpionfish, and other sea creatures can be seen here.
Due to the proximity of the wreck to the mega pier, the dive site is not accessible when the ship cruises are docked. As such, it would be best to avoid the period between October and May, which is known as the cruise season.
The visibility is great, often reaching 30 meters (100 feet) and the currents are mild to strong. The water temperature ranges from 21° C/70° F to 29° C/85° F.
