The Paglugaban Cave is located in Northern Palawan, inside the Bacuit Archipelago. The underwater cave system is made up of five chambers. The entrance sits at sea level and you’ll swim about 30 meters/100 feet until you reach the first chamber.
Halfway from the cave entrance to the first chamber, you can surface to see a statue of the Virgin Mary. Another statue of the Virgin Mary was erected by two wandering survivors in a dry area inside the second chamber. At the bottom of the second chamber lie stark reminders of divers that weren’t as lucky – a weight belt, a snorkel, and a torch. To reach the third chamber you must go through a tight passage. The third chamber looks like a dome with smooth walls and pillars. Behind the pillars, you’ll find the entrance to the fourth chamber, where you’ll see huge stalactites and stalagmites, as well as a halocline. The fifth and final chamber is a cathedral-like dome.
The Paglugaban Cave has an average depth of 12 meters/40 feet and a maximum depth of 27 meters/88 feet. There are no currents inside the cave, but you may encounter medium swells at the entry point. Visibility is outstanding. The water temperature is around 21-24° C/70-75° F.
